How can you make a device 'own' an address when it has no interfaces with that address??!! An example where this could theoretically be a requirement is where some hosts have been configurd with an incorrect host entry i.e. with the wrong ip address specified for the host.
With the ip alias command this effectivelly allows multiple addresses to be assigned to the router.
With the following command the router will respond to a telnet session to ip address 1.1.1.1
ip alias 1.1.1.1 23
use the command show ip alias to verify
