OSPF routing part IV - passive interface

In OSPF the passive interface command behaves a little differently from a distance vector routing protocol like RIP. When applied to an interface it will prevent an OSPF adjacency being formed and hence will not only prevent the sending of updates but receiving of updates also. This effectively creates a 'stub' network.

With RIP the passive-interface command will prevent the sending of updates but will still permit routing updates to be received. To achieve the same functionality within OSPF the command
'ip ospf database-filter all out' can be used.
